TikTok profile picture size
TikTok only says that a profile photo must be at least 20 × 20 px, far too small to look sharp. It shows your picture as a circle: about 200 px across at the top of your profile, and much smaller next to your videos and comments.
| What | TikTok |
|---|---|
| Shape | Square, 1:1. TikTok shows it as a circle |
| Smallest size TikTok takes | 20 × 20 px |
| Shown on your profile | About 200 px |
| Size to upload | 720 × 720 px |
| Format | JPG or PNG |
Why 720 px
TikTok is used on phones, and a phone screen packs two or three pixels into the space of one. A picture shown at 200 px uses up to about 600 real pixels, so a file of 720 × 720 px stays sharp, which is why the tool starts there. Choose 200 px for a small file that matches the size on your profile.
The follow button sits on your picture
Next to your videos in the feed, TikTok puts a small follow button on the lower edge of your picture for people who do not follow you yet. Keep your chin and anything that matters clear of the bottom of the circle.
What the circle cuts off
The circle keeps the middle of the square and hides its four corners, about a fifth of the picture. Keep your face in the middle, leave some room above your hair, and let your shoulders run out at the bottom. Text and logos near the edge are cut off.
When the photo itself is the problem
A resizer cannot fix a photo that is too small, too dark or cut off at the forehead. If you have no better picture, a professional headshot made from a few selfies gives you one that fits the circle from the start.
