What the 2:3 aspect ratio means
A 2:3 picture is tall: 2 parts wide for every 3 parts tall, for example 1000 × 1500 px. It is a camera photo held upright.
| Use | Size in pixels |
|---|---|
| Pinterest pin | 1000 × 1500 |
| 10 × 15 cm (4 × 6 in) print at 300 ppi | 1200 × 1800 |
Where 2:3 is used
Pinterest recommends 2:3 pins of 1000 × 1500 px. The same shape is used for portrait prints of 10 × 15 cm, for book covers and for many posters.
Pins are seen small first
Most people see a pin in a narrow column of the feed. Keep one clear subject, and if you add a title later, leave room for it at the top or bottom of the frame.
Cropping is not resizing
Cropping cuts off the edges that do not fit the new shape; nothing is squeezed or stretched. Resizing only changes the number of pixels. This tool does both in one go: it cuts the photo to the ratio, then saves it at the size you pick, or with every pixel of the crop under “Original”.
When the photo itself is the problem
A crop cannot fix a photo that is too small, too dark or cut off at the forehead. If you need a portrait and have no good one, a professional headshot made from a few selfies gives you one that fits any frame.
